CTK Somewhere in the Near Future...

Posted on January 15, 2016

The Congregation Council is meeting to discuss a happy dilemma. The Council President addresses the members, "As you all know, we are experiencing significant growth here at Christ the King. Our Sunday school classrooms are overflowing and our youth group has become so large that it is impossible to provide transportation to places without an army of volunteers. We need to discuss a building program and possibly buying one
or two large travel vans."

Now you are saying to yourselves, wait, that doesn't sound like CTK. Not yet, but it could! The question is how do we get there - how do we work to reach out and grow our ministry to children, youth and their families? We have good programs here at CTK with talented staff, but our Christian Education and Youth Ministry Directors are currently over-worked and underpaid for their part time positions. In order to really grow these programs, more hours are needed. Specifically, we need to return to having a full-time person to be present and actively involved in outreach to both our community and church family.

After recommendations from both the Personnel and Mutual Ministry Committees, Council is including in the 2016 budget the finances to combine both of the part-time positions into one full-time position. Council has built in additional funds earmarked for such a position to begin in the spring or early summer of 2016. The salaries of the two part-time positions would then be rolled into these funds to offer what we feel is a competitive salary for the position of a full-time Christian Education/Youth and Family Ministry Director.

We have been blessed to have such dedicated people as Deborah Scarazzo and Kristine Macauley leading our Sunday school and youth programs for the past few years. To find and keep such capable staff in a part-time role is difficult. Moreover, we certainly hope that they will continue to share their gifts and consider applying for the position if they so desire. But we also know that keeping the status quo will not lead to growth. Ministries and relationships need time and resources to grow. This is the
first step in that direction. We need your offerings, donations, special gifts, and support to make this happen in 2016. Who knows, our Council may be faced with that happy dilemma sooner than you think!

Blessings,
Linda Larson on behalf of The Mutual Ministry Team
